HB309 Summary

• Expands breast cancer screening coverage for health insurance policies issued on or after January 1, 2022, to include formal risk factor screening assessments for women age 30 and older using any readily available risk factor modeling tool.

• Adds coverage for supplemental breast imaging including MRI, digital breast tomosynthesis, and ultrasound for women of any age when deemed medically necessary under American College of Radiology guidelines.

• Modifies existing mammography requirements to allow coverage based on "above-average risk for breast cancer as determined by a risk-factor modeling tool" in addition to family history, removing the requirement for physician recommendation.

• Requires the State Auditor to conduct an impact assessment report on the social and financial impacts of the new mandated coverages and submit findings to the legislature by 20 days before the 2022 regular session convenes.

• Establishes an effective date of July 1, 2060 for the Act.
