HB 600 Summary

• Increases Hawaii's minimum wage from $10.10 per hour to $11.50 per hour effective January 1, 2022, with subsequent annual increases reaching $17.00 per hour by January 1, 2026.

• Beginning September 30, 2026, and annually thereafter, requires the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to calculate an adjusted minimum wage rate based on the Honolulu region consumer price index, rounded to the nearest five cents.

• Limits any annual adjustment increase to a maximum of 10 percent of the current minimum wage rate, and prevents decreases in the minimum wage rate even if the consumer price index declines.

• Repeals the tip credit provisions that previously allowed employers to pay tipped employees below the minimum wage.

• Takes effect July 1, 2021.
