HI HCR104

Urges the Board of Land and Natural Resources to rename Russian Fort Elisabeth State Historical Park in Waimea, Kauai to "Paulaula," the traditional Hawaiian place name for the eastern bank at the mouth of the Waimea River where King Kaumuali'i's royal compound was located.

Directs the Division of State Parks to develop new interpretive signs, brochures, and websites for the site in both Hawaiian and English that primarily reflect the history of Kauai's ali'i nui and the site's multicultural heritage.

Directs the Division of State Parks to collaborate with the National Park Service to update the National Historic Landmark designation and incorporate the Hawaiian place name and recent historical and anthropological research findings.

Requires certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Secretary of the Interior, Director of the National Park Service, Governor, Board of Land and Natural Resources, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and county mayors.
