Department of Land and Natural Resources is requested to convene a working group to make recommendations on wildfire mitigation for Waahila Ridge near the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Mid-Pacific Institute, Noelani Elementary School, and Kalawao Street.

Working group membership includes the Board of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson (serving as chair), representatives from the House and Senate districts including Manoa, University of Hawaii President, Honolulu Board of Water Supply Chair, Honolulu Fire Chief, Director of Human Services, and a public recreational advocacy representative.

Working group is requested to invite a fire expert from the Pacific Fire Exchange and a resident living near the subject area to participate.

Working group must solicit input from residents of communities impacted or potentially impacted by wildfires on Waahila Ridge and report findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the Regular Session of 2023.

Working group members serve without compensation but receive reimbursement for travel and necessary expenses, and are exempt from Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 84; the working group ceases to exist on June 30, 2023.
