Requests hotels and resorts in Hawaii to immediately rehire or recall employees who were laid off or placed on leave due to COVID-19 pandemic closures in March 2020.

Acknowledges that thousands of hotel and resort workers were laid off or temporarily furloughed when properties closed, and many were not rehired even after reopening.

Notes that the lack of rehired staff has resulted in overworked employees and a decline in the quality of hotel services, including basic cleaning.

Directs certified copies of the resolution to be transmitted to the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association for distribution to members and to UNITE HERE! Local 5 union leadership.
