Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility consists of twenty underground tanks built in the 1940s, located directly above the Southern Oahu Basal Aquifer that supplies 77% of Oahu's water.

Approximately 14,000 gallons of fuel leaked from the Red Hill Fuel Tanks in November 2021, contaminating the Red Hill drinking water shaft and displacing thousands of military personnel and families.

U.S. Department of Defense announced on March 7, 2022, its commitment to permanently close the Red Hill Fuel Tanks.

Urges the Secretary of Defense to decommission the Red Hill Fuel Tanks as expeditiously as possible and provide weekly progress reports beginning May 5, 2022, continuing until complete decommissioning.

Weekly reports shall be provided to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Hawaii State Department of Health, Honolulu Board of Water Supply, state legislature members, Honolulu Mayor, and city council members.
