Beginning January 1, 2023, public schools, private schools, and public charter schools must have at least one trained employee on duty during the entire school day to administer or assist with seizure rescue medication and vagus nerve stimulator magnet treatments.

All school principals, guidance counselors, and teachers must complete at least one hour of annual self-study review of seizure safety materials developed by medical professionals, consistent with best practice guidelines for recognizing seizure symptoms and providing first aid.

Public schools and public charter schools must establish a seizure action plan for each student certified by a physician as having a seizure disorder, identifying trained employees and contact methods; the plan must be distributed to all school staff supervising the student.

Schools must provide age-appropriate annual seizure education programs to all students consistent with Epilepsy Foundation guidelines; exemptions apply to schools without students with seizure disorders or prescribed seizure medications.

School employees administering seizure medications or vagus nerve stimulation are granted immunity from civil liability for acts or omissions performed pursuant to this section, and the act appropriates funds for employee training and health services (effective July 1, 2050).
