S.B. 2282 - Abortion Care

• Replaces gender-specific language ("female") with "pregnant person" throughout abortion statutes to include transgender and gender non-binary individuals seeking abortion care.

• Clarifies that advanced practice registered nurses with prescriptive authority may provide medication and aspiration abortion care (removal of first trimester limitation).

• Removes criminal imprisonment penalties for violations of abortion provisions, leaving only a fine of not more than $1,000.

• Simplifies section 453-16 by consolidating requirements and removing archaic language while maintaining that procedural abortions must occur in hospitals, clinics, or medical offices.

• Takes effect upon approval and does not affect rights, duties, penalties, or proceedings that existed before the effective date.
