HI SB2535

Prohibits users, owners, or operators of Hawaii's electric system from connecting offshore wind turbines to island electric grids if sited closer than a specified distance from the shoreline of any main Hawaiian island (specific mileage distance left blank in the bill text).

Requires the Public Utilities Commission to deny approval for grid connections of offshore wind turbines sited closer than the specified distance from any main Hawaiian island's shoreline.

Defines "offshore wind turbine" as any electricity generation project using a wind turbine sited seaward of a state shoreline.

Establishes this statute under Chapter 269, Part IX of Hawaii Revised Statutes, supporting Hawaii's commitment to 100 percent clean energy by 2045 while protecting coastal areas.

Takes effect on July 30, 2075.
