Owner or operator of underground storage tanks must have each tank inspected annually beginning July 1, 2022, to ensure compliance with design, construction, maintenance, and corrosion protection standards.

Inspections must be performed by qualified inspectors and must examine equipment, procedures, operations, maintenance, and recordkeeping; results must be reported to the department within 30 days or by September 30, whichever is earlier.

If a tank is found non-compliant, the inspector must notify the owner/operator, and the department must prohibit new deliveries and revoke the permit within 60 days unless repairs are completed or a temporary deferral is granted.

Non-compliant tanks must be taken out of service within 90 days after inspection unless the department grants a temporary deferral and the owner/operator provides a repair schedule.

Tanks permanently out of service are exempt from inspection requirements, and owners/operators must maintain inspection records for as long as the tank stores regulated substances; effective January 1, 2050.
