HI SB2670

Establishes the Hawaii state lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, plus commission within the department of human services to improve state interface with the LGBTQ+ community and advocate for equity in all aspects of state government.

Commission consists of 6 ex officio non-voting members (superintendents and directors from education, university system, labor, human resources, human services, and health) and 8 voting members appointed by the governor (1 each from Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui counties; 4 from Honolulu; 1 representing the Hawaii sexual and gender minority workgroup).

Commission members serve without compensation but are reimbursed for necessary expenses including travel.

Commission duties include acting as a clearinghouse for information on LGBTQ+ status, creating public awareness, recommending legislative and administrative actions for equal treatment, maintaining contact with relevant agencies, and submitting annual reports with recommendations to the governor and legislature.

Act takes effect upon approval.
