HI SB2824

Amends minimum qualifications for Hawaii Board of Education members to include understanding of best practices from organizations such as the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE)

Adds new requirement that the board collectively possess knowledge, experience, and proven expertise in education, workforce development, critical industries, emerging fields, energy, advanced manufacturing, health care, business, technology, entrepreneurship, real estate, finance, or organizational management

Requires board members to demonstrate integrity, civic virtue, high ethical standards, availability for engagement, and commitment to educational leadership and developing long-term strategic vision

Effective date is July 1, 2022
