S.B. 2917 Summary

• Requires all individual and group accident and health insurance policies and hospital/medical service plan contracts that provide pregnancy-related benefits to include coverage for oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing) procedures for unmarried women and spouses, with a maximum lifetime benefit of $100,000.

• Eliminates the "one-time only" limitation on in vitro fertilization (IVF) benefits and removes requirements that infertility must be documented after five years; instead allows coverage after two years of infertility or upon diagnosis of specified medical conditions (endometriosis, DES exposure, fallopian tube blockage/removal, or abnormal male factors).

• Limits oocyte cryopreservation coverage to four completed oocyte retrievals, with two additional retrievals covered if a live birth results from a previous retrieval.

• Applies to all new health insurance policies and HMO contracts delivered or issued after December 31, 2022.

• Effective date: July 1, 2050.
