S.B. 3142 - Workers' Compensation Law Summary

• Amends chapter 386, part V, subpart C title to include reserve public safety law enforcement officers among covered volunteer occupations.

• Adds new definition of "reserve public safety law enforcement officer" as members of authorized volunteer law enforcement force of the department of public safety who perform services voluntarily and without pay under authorized direction.

• Extends workers' compensation coverage to reserve public safety law enforcement officers injured while performing services under the conditions specified in section 386-3, HRS, and deems them to have earned wages for those services.

• Includes reserve public safety law enforcement officers in the provisions for computing average weekly wages, ensuring they are credited with at least the minimum hourly wage prescribed in chapter 387, HRS.

• Act takes effect upon approval.
