Department of Education shall establish a native fish hatchery pilot program at Waianae High School to support community sustainability efforts and develop a green workforce.

Teachers in the program will be trained in fish hatchery operation and management, with acquired skills translated into curriculum for students.

Department of Education must submit progress reports and findings to the legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of regular sessions in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Pilot program will cease operations on June 30, 2025.

Appropriates funds from general revenues for fiscal year 2022-2023 for one hatchery manager position (1.0 FTE), two hatchery technician positions (2.0 FTE), and construction, operation, and maintenance of the hatchery facility including a greenhouse structure.
