• Amends Section 206S-3 of Hawaii Revised Statutes to modify the duties of the Hawaii Broadband and Digital Equity Office

• Removes previous duties related to promoting trans-Pacific submarine cable landing and implementing recommendations from the Hawaii Broadband Task Force and 2020 Hawaii Broadband Strategic Plan

• Adds new duty to prioritize access to broadband in rural areas throughout the State

• Retains existing core duties including developing strategies to increase broadband affordability and penetration, supporting public and private deployment efforts, administering grant programs, seeking funding, and maintaining a broadband mapping and digital equity data repository

• Takes effect upon approval
