S.B. 839 - Our Care, Our Choice Act Amendments

• Authorizes advanced practice registered nurses to serve as attending providers and consulting providers for medical aid in dying, in addition to physicians.

• Expands counseling providers to include psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists, alongside existing psychiatrists, psychologists, and clinical social workers.

• Reduces the mandatory waiting period between a patient's initial and second oral request from 20 days to 15 days.

• Creates an expedited pathway allowing terminally ill individuals expected to die within 15 days to waive the waiting period and reiterate their oral request at any time after the initial request.

• Takes effect upon approval.
