Office of Planning and Sustainable Development requested to evaluate the Hawaii 2000 Conference and establish a Hawaii 2050 Conference to incorporate public input into the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan development process.

Hawaii 2000 Conference (instituted in 1970 by Governor John A. Burns) gathered over 2,000 residents to provide suggestions on Hawaii's future, with public input ensuring the resulting report addressed residents' priorities.

Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan (drafted in 2008) aligns state policies with UN Sustainable Development Goals in 12 areas including renewable energy, greenhouse gas reduction, water conservation, food security, affordable housing, and Native Hawaiian culture support.

Office of Planning and Sustainable Development must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2023 Regular Session convening.

Resolution emphasizes that the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan lacks a similar public conference process and that incorporating public input through a Hawaii 2050 Conference would promote a more inclusive outcome.
