Request the Department of Education to name the new Kihei High School in honor of U.S. Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink.

Congresswoman Mink was born in Paia, Maui in 1927 and became the first woman of color and first Asian-American woman to serve in U.S. Congress in 1964.

Mink co-authored Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, marking its 50th anniversary in 2022, and championed educational equity and early childhood education initiatives.

The new high school in Kihei is located near where Mink attended Maui High School, where she served as the first female student body president and graduated as class valedictorian.

Direct certified copies of the resolution to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, Interim Superintendent of Education, and Mayor of the County of Maui.
