Senate Resolution endorses and adopts the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons as a step toward achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 for peace, justice, and strong institutions.

Calls on the federal government to renounce the first use of nuclear weapons, end presidential sole authority to launch nuclear attacks, remove US nuclear weapons from hair-trigger alert, and cancel plans to replace the arsenal with enhanced weapons.

Cites Hawaii's vulnerability to nuclear threats (referencing the January 13, 2018 missile alert), the existence of approximately 14,500 nuclear weapons globally, and the catastrophic climate and humanitarian consequences of nuclear war.

Directs certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the UN Secretary-General, US President, Congress leadership, Hawaii's congressional delegation, Governor, and county mayors.
