S.R. No. 202 Summary

• Department of Education must report to the Legislature on the amount of public school space available for preschool classrooms, including analysis of administrative space and vacant classroom space.

• Report must include information on classrooms that were previously used for junior kindergarten before the program ended in 2013 under Act 178, Session Laws of Hawaii 2012.

• Department must provide data on the number of current public school teachers licensed to teach early childhood education.

• Report must include findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation, due to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the Regular Session of 2023 convenes.

• Certified copies of the resolution must be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, interim Superintendent of Education, and interim Director of the Executive Office on Early Learning.
