Request the Office of Planning and Sustainable Development to evaluate the Hawaii 2000 Conference and incorporate a similar Hawaii 2050 Conference into the development of the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan.

Recognize that the Hawaii 2000 Conference (1970) gathered over 2,000 residents to provide public input on the state's future, ensuring the resulting report addressed topics important to residents.

Acknowledge the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan (2008) aligns state policies with UN Sustainable Development Goals covering renewable energy, greenhouse gas reduction, water conservation, waste reduction, food security, clean transportation, affordable housing, and sea level rise planning.

Note that the Hawaii 2050 Sustainability Plan lacks a public conference process for obtaining resident input, unlike the Hawaii 2000 Conference.

Require the Office of Planning and Sustainable Development to submit a report with findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the Regular Session of 2023.
