Patsy T. Mink was born in Paia, Maui in 1927 and was the first woman of color and first Asian-American woman elected to U.S. Congress in 1964

Co-authored Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits sex discrimination in education, marking its 50th anniversary in 2022

During her tenure in Congress, Mink advocated for educational equity, children's rights, women's rights, and support for disenfranchised populations

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Superintendent of Education and Mayor of the County of Maui
