H.B. 1161 Summary

• Requires board members of condominium associations, cooperative housing corporations, and planned community associations to certify receipt and reading of governing documents within 90 days of election or appointment, or complete a board leader course from the Community Associations Institute or similar organization.

• Governing documents subject to certification include articles of incorporation, bylaws, rules and regulations, declarations, articles, and house rules depending on the association type.

• Associations and cooperatives must retain each board member's written certification or course completion certificate for the duration of their term.

• Effective date: July 1, 2023.
