H.B. 1241 Summary

• Authorizes licensed professional land surveyors and their assistants to enter private property at reasonable times to perform land surveying work at the request of the property owner or person with an interest in the property.

• Requires surveyors to provide at least 7 days written notice before entering adjoining lands, including the surveyor's name and contact information, scheduled date and time, description of work, and statement that property owners may object within 24 hours of the scheduled work.

• Protects surveyors from criminal trespass prosecution under Hawaii Revised Statutes sections 708-813 and 708-814 when entering property in accordance with the new survey access law.

• Requires surveyors to carry identification including a valid government-issued photo ID and either their license certificate with license number or professional seal, along with a copy of the notice provided to the property owner.

• Effective June 30, 3000.
