H.B. 1289 Summary

• Removes the requirement for environmental assessments under Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 343-5 for any use within historic sites designated in the National Register or Hawaii Register of Historic Places

• Eliminates the environmental assessment requirement for any use within the Waikiki special district as delineated in the City and County of Honolulu's land use ordinance

• Renumbers remaining environmental assessment triggers in Section 343-5(a), with proposals for wastewater treatment units, waste-to-energy facilities, landfills, oil refineries, and power-generating facilities remaining subject to assessment requirements

• Takes effect upon approval
