H.B. 922 Summary

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 386-41(b) to increase workers' compensation benefits for partially dependent parents of a deceased worker from 25% to 50% of the deceased's average weekly wages.

• Removes the distinction between "wholly dependent" and "partially dependent" parents, treating all dependent or partially dependent parents uniformly at the 50% benefit rate.

• Benefits are calculated based on the maximum weekly benefit rate prescribed in Section 386-31 divided by 0.6667 and not less than the minimum prescribed in that section divided by 0.6667.

• The Act becomes effective upon approval and does not affect rights, duties, penalties, or proceedings that matured or began before the effective date.
