HCR 181 Summary

• Requests the Department of Health to conduct an impact assessment of mandating health insurance coverage for weight management medication as proposed in Senate Bill No. 1020 from the 2023 Regular Session

• Requires the assessment to analyze the impact of section 1311(d)(3) of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) on the proposed coverage, including additional costs beyond essential health benefits

• Directs the Department of Health to determine the number of qualified health plans available in Hawaii, enrollment figures, and the actuarial cost to the State for reimbursement of weight management medication

• Requires the Department of Health to submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2024 Regular Session convenes

• Directs transmission of certified copies to the Insurance Commissioner, who must distribute them to all insurers issuing health insurance policies in the State
