Department of Education requested to convene a working group to develop a written plan for all public elementary, middle, and high schools to provide instruction in Asian American and Pacific Islander history beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.

Plan must include how the Board of Education will incorporate curriculum on Asian American and Pacific Islander history in Hawaii, civil rights contributions from the 19th century onward, and cultural, economic, political, and social contributions to the United States.

Superintendent of Education requested to prepare and distribute instructional materials to all school complex areas to guide development of Asian American and Pacific Islander history education.

Curriculum requested to include instruction on how race shapes power structures and lived experiences to teach students about civic duty.

Each school complex area to determine minimum instructional time for the history unit, with Superintendent to monitor compliance during annual visits; certified copies to be sent to Board of Education and all complex area superintendents.
