Department of Agriculture requested to conduct a study on labeling requirements for Hawaii-grown tea to protect and promote the budding tea industry

Study must recommend identity statements for 100 percent Hawaii-grown tea and for blends containing Hawaii-grown tea mixed with non-Hawaii tea, including specific details on type size and package location

Study must include recommendations on penalties for labeling violations and recordkeeping requirements for growers, manufacturers, and packagers regarding volume and geographic origin of teas

Department requested to estimate increased trade value from geographic origin disclosures and perform cost analysis of implementing the labeling and recordkeeping requirements

Department of Agriculture must submit study findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2024 Regular Session convenes
