S.B. 1112 Summary

• Adds new subsection (g) to Hawaii Revised Statutes §46-4 prohibiting counties from banning rental agreements of one to five months for specific purposes.

• Allows short-term rentals only for tenants who are relocating from one Hawaiian island to another island or employed to temporarily perform work at a job site in the applicable county.

• Requires each county council to adopt an ordinance implementing this prohibition no later than June 30, 2024 for the provision to take effect in that county.

• Makes minor grammatical corrections to existing §46-4 language (changing "such" to "a" and "within" to "in" in certain provisions).

• Effective date: July 1, 2023.
