HI SB1240

Increases the maximum fine for bribery of a public servant from $25,000 to $250,000, designating it as a class B felony, in addition to imprisonment or probation penalties.

Eliminates eligibility for deferred acceptance of guilty plea or nolo contendere plea under chapter 853 for persons convicted of bribery.

Requires the Commission on Salaries to consider factors that attract and retain qualified individuals and deter corruption and bribery when making salary recommendations for state officials and department heads.

Changes the effective date for salary recommendations from July 1 to January 1 of the year following the first election after the salary commission convenes.

Takes effect July 1, 2050, with amendments to the salary commission provisions effective January 1, 2024.
