Appropriates funds to the Department of Land and Natural Resources to support the Hawaii Ant Lab in mitigating little fire ants, an invasive species spreading rapidly throughout Hawaii.

Little fire ants cause painful stings resulting in itchy rashes or welts, can blind household pets, and create significant economic damage to the State.

The Hawaii Ant Lab, established in 2009, previously received funding from the Hawaii Invasive Species Council and Department of Agriculture, but funding ceased due to budget cuts and repeal of the agricultural development and food security special fund.

Appropriates equal sums for fiscal years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 (specific dollar amount left blank in bill text) to address funding uncertainty and prevent further staff hour reductions.

Takes effect July 1, 2050.
