SB 1614 Summary

• Creates a new bargaining unit (16) exclusively for adult corrections officers of the Department of Public Safety's Corrections Division or its successor agency.

• Excludes adult corrections officers from bargaining unit (10) "Institutional, health, and correctional workers" and establishes them as a separate negotiating unit.

• Applies voting structure for bargaining unit (16) matching that of units (1), (2), (3), (4), (9), (10), (13), (14), and (15), with the governor holding six votes and mayors, chief justice, and Hawaii health systems corporation board each holding one vote if they have employees in the unit.

• Preserves all existing rights, benefits, and privileges of adult corrections officers under Hawaii Revised Statutes chapters 76, 78, 87A, and 88, with no break in service during transition to the new bargaining unit.

• Takes effect July 1, 2050.
