SB442 Summary

• Authorizes advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) to serve as attending providers and consulting providers for medical aid in dying, in addition to physicians currently authorized under the Our Care, Our Choice Act.

• Allows psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners to provide required counseling to qualified patients, alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, and clinical social workers.

• Reduces the mandatory waiting period between a patient's first and second oral requests for medical aid in dying from 20 days to 5 days.

• Waives the 5-day waiting period entirely for terminally ill patients whose attending provider reasonably believes they will die within 5 days, provided the provider confirms the request is not made under coercion or undue influence.

• Effective date: December 31, 2050.
