Prohibits the sale of screw or bayonet base type compact fluorescent lamps beginning January 1 (effective date to be specified)

Prohibits the sale of pin-base type compact fluorescent lamps and linear fluorescent lamps beginning January 1 (effective date to be specified)

Exempts lamps used for image capture, projection, medical/veterinary purposes, pharmaceutical manufacturing, spectroscopy, research institutions, and ultraviolet applications including germicidal, disinfection, ozone generation, and sunlamp products

Exempts lamps used to replace original equipment in previously manufactured motor vehicles

Purpose is to phase out mercury-containing fluorescent bulbs in favor of more energy-efficient, mercury-free LED alternatives that reduce toxic pollution and save consumer costs
