SB 741 Summary

• Prohibits lessees or successors who sell or transfer their Hawaiian home lands lease for personal gain from being placed on any subsequent waiting list maintained by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

• Grants the Hawaiian Homes Commission a right of first refusal requiring lessees to offer their lease to the department before selling or transferring it for personal gain.

• Adds new conditions to lease agreements under Section 208 of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920, including the commission's right of first refusal and ineligibility provisions for subsequent leases.

• Applies the same ineligibility restrictions to successors who inherit a lease and subsequently sell or transfer their interest for personal gain.

• Takes effect on March 22, 2075.
