Department of Education is requested to convene a working group to develop a written plan for all public elementary, middle, and high schools to provide a unit of instruction in Asian American and Pacific Islander history as part of required curriculum starting with the 2024-2025 school year.

Plan must include how the Board of Education will incorporate curriculum on Asian American and Pacific Islander history, including historical events, civil rights contributions from the 19th century onward, and cultural, economic, political, and social contributions to the United States.

Superintendent of Education must prepare and make available instructional materials (including materials from non-governmental sources) to all school complex areas as guidelines for developing Asian American and Pacific Islander history education in each school.

Updated curriculum must include a unit of instruction about how race shapes power structures and lived experience to teach students about civic duty.

Superintendent is requested to monitor each school complex area's compliance with the Asian American and Pacific Islander history curriculum requirements during annual compliance visits, with each complex area determining the minimum instructional time that qualifies as a unit of instruction.
