Hawaii imports over 85% of its food and is pursuing agricultural self-sufficiency, requiring investment in education and training for the next generation of farmers.

Future Farmers of America currently operates 13 active chapters with over 150 members in Hawaii, and 4-H is delivered through University of Hawaii at Manoa's Cooperative Extension program.

Agriculture education provides skills in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts while preparing students for competitive careers in global agriculture and natural resource management.

Department of Education and Hawaii Association of Independent Schools are urged to expand Future Farmers of America and 4-H programs to establish and strengthen career pathways in agriculture.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Board of Education Chairperson, Superintendent of Education, Hawaii Association of Independent Schools President, and University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension leadership.
