S.C.R. NO. 210 Summary

• Requests the Board of Education to report on ways to increase access to extended learning opportunities and course credits for non-traditional and external learning experiences such as internships, apprenticeships, online coursework, and community service.

• Directs the Board to identify the number of students enrolled in Alternative Learning Programs, Services, and Supports programs during the 2022-2023 school year.

• Requires the Board to recommend a process allowing all public school students to enroll in credit-bearing extended learning opportunities and a process for community organizations to register to offer such programs.

• Mandates the Board to recommend necessary changes to Board policies (including Board Policy 105-10) to enable broader access to extended learning opportunities.

• Board must submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the 2024 Regular Session.
