S.C.R. No. 8 Summary

• Requests the State Auditor to assess the social and financial effects of mandating health insurance coverage for breast cancer screenings and supplemental imaging under a related Senate Bill introduced in 2023.

• Proposed coverage would include annual mammograms for women of any age with above-average breast cancer risk, risk factor screening for women age 30 or older, and additional supplemental imaging deemed medically necessary by American College of Radiology guidelines.

• Currently, health insurers are not required to cover annual mammograms for women under 40 unless physician-recommended, nor are they required to cover formal risk factor assessments or supplemental imaging.

• The Auditor must submit findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the start of the 2024 Regular Session.

• Certified copies must be transmitted to the State Auditor and Insurance Commissioner.
