Hawaii imports more than 85 percent of its food, creating significant food security vulnerability that requires expansion of agricultural education and training opportunities.

Future Farmers of America operates 13 active chapters with over 150 members in Hawaii, and 4-H is delivered through University of Hawaii at Manoa's Cooperative Extension program.

Agriculture education emphasizes STEM and arts skills, preparing students for competitive careers in global agriculture, food and fiber production, and natural resource management.

Department of Education and Hawaii Association of Independent Schools are urged to expand Future Farmers of America and 4-H programs to create career pathways for youth in agriculture, in consultation with University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension.

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Board of Education Chairperson, Superintendent of Education, Hawaii Association of Independent Schools President, and University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources leadership.
