University of Hawaii is requested to conduct a study estimating the number of residential structures containing dangerous levels of asbestos in Hawaii

Study shall evaluate the potential impact of mandating state asbestos abatement processes prior to renovation or demolition of residential properties, similar to requirements in other jurisdictions

University of Hawaii must assess impacts on Hawaii's contractor industry and permitting process from implementing such abatement requirements

University of Hawaii shall submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2024 Regular Session convenes

Certified copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Director of Health, President of University of Hawaii System, and Director of Department of Planning and Permitting for Honolulu
