Repeals section 353-6.2 of Hawaii Revised Statutes, which required community correctional centers to conduct periodic reviews of pretrial detainees at least every three months to reassess whether they should remain in custody or be reconsidered for release.

Eliminates the requirement for community correctional centers to transmit findings and recommendations from these reviews to the appropriate court, prosecuting attorney, and defense counsel.

Removes provisions requiring courts to schedule hearings on motions to modify bail based on recommendations from the periodic reviews.

Notes that from October 2021 to July 2022, intake service centers conducted 1,244 reviews but only recommended 10 detainees for release, with courts granting release to only 3, indicating the reviews produce minimal results relative to staff resources required.

Takes effect upon approval.
