HB 1529 Summary

• Allows burial council members whose terms have expired to continue serving as holdover members until reappointment to a second term is confirmed or a successor is appointed.

• Limits holdover members' tenure to no longer than the end of the fourth regular legislative session following their term expiration.

• Establishes five island burial councils (Hawai'i, Maui/Lāna'i, Moloka'i, O'ahu, and Kaua'i/Ni'ihau) with nine members each, except Moloka'i council which has five members.

• Requires nomination lists for council vacancies to be submitted on the first business day of December before term expiration, or within thirty business days for mid-term vacancies.

• Takes effect upon approval.
