H.B. 1577 - Motor Vehicle Towing Fees

• Authorizes tow operators to charge additional reasonable amounts for towing overturned vehicles, in addition to standard towing fees.

• Requires towing companies to accept payment by cash, credit card, and debit card; prohibits directing vehicle owners to use on-site automated teller machines instead of accepting card payments.

• Maintains existing towing fee structure: maximum $65 for standard tow (or $75 with dolly), $7.50 per mile, $25 per day storage for first seven days ($20 thereafter), $30 difficult hookup surcharge, and $15 overtime charge for off-hours towing.

• Clarifies that towing companies cannot charge fees if vehicle owner appears during the hookup process and vehicle is released at a safe location.

• Effective July 1, 3000.
