HB 1611 Summary

• Requires the Law Enforcement Standards Board and law enforcement agencies to consult the National Decertification Index before certifying or employing any law enforcement officer to determine if applicants are listed.

• Mandates the board report to the National Decertification Index when it suspends or revokes an officer's certification, when an officer voluntarily relinquishes certification, when certification lapses, or when an investigation into minimum employment standards is opened.

• Requires the board to review the National Decertification Index every six months beginning July 1, 2026, to identify any new types of information or records being accepted and adopt rules within three months to report such additional information.

• Defines "law enforcement agency" to include county police departments, the Department of Law Enforcement, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Department of Taxation, and Department of the Attorney General.

• Takes effect July 1, 2026.
