HB 1809 Summary

• Amends Section 200-10, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to allow the Department of Land and Natural Resources to designate moorage space within state small boat harbors for commercial fishing vessels and transient vessels.

• Requires that when a new ocean recreation management area is established after July 1, 2024, the number of commercial use permits issued for that area must be equal to or greater than the number of commercial permits that existed in the area before the management area was established.

• Clarifies that the department is not required to reissue any commercial use permits that have been terminated.

• Makes minor grammatical corrections to Section 200-10(d) by replacing "which" with "that" in references to vessel mooring permits.

• Takes effect upon approval.
