Department of Land and Natural Resources shall establish imu infrastructure in state parks, including imu pits and safety protocols, to preserve and promote traditional Native Hawaiian cooking practices.

Department must consult with cultural experts and practitioners to ensure imu infrastructure establishment respects and honors Native Hawaiian traditional cultural practices, including protocols for building, using, and dismantling imu pits.

Department shall submit a report to the legislature by July 1, 2025, including the number of imu pits constructed, funds expended, safety measures taken, and any barriers to construction.

An unspecified amount of general revenues is appropriated for fiscal year 2024-2025 for establishment and maintenance of imu infrastructure in state parks, including construction and safety installations.

Act takes effect on July 1, 2024.
