Hawaii National Guard members ordered into state active duty by the Governor are ineligible for enrollment in the Employees' Retirement System based solely on their active duty service.

National Guard members who work for the State or county in positions other than active duty service remain eligible for system membership.

National Guard members can still receive service credit for active military service under existing provisions.

"Active duty" is defined as duty in active service ordered by the Governor to provide services to the State during emergencies under sections 121-29 and 121-30.
